Privacy and the handling of your details
This site is run by private individuals in East London. It is not a company and it sells nothing. The only personal details that reach us are the ones you type into the contact form or tell us on the phone, and this page sets out plainly what happens to them under the Protection of Personal Information Act.
Who is responsible for your details
The site is written and maintained by two private individuals who carry out vehicle inspections in the Buffalo City area. There is no company behind it, no legal entity and no third party with access to the enquiries that arrive.
Correspondence about your details can be handed in or sent to the desk address printed on the contact page, or raised on the telephone number shown there. We will deal with it ourselves because there is nobody else to pass it to.
What we collect, and only that
The contact form asks for a name, a telephone number, a reply address, a subject line and your message. We also keep what you choose to tell us about the car: the asking price, the kilometres, the body style, the town where it sits and whether there is finance on it.
We do not ask for an identity number, a residential address, bank details, income information or anything about your health. If you send such information to us unprompted, we remove it from the record once the enquiry is answered.
Why we hold it at all
The single purpose is to answer your enquiry and to carry out any inspection, paperwork check, drive or handover you then ask us to do. Where you book work, we keep the inspection notes and photographs so that you can ask us about them afterwards and so that we can stand behind what we wrote.
Your details are never used to send unrequested material, because we send none. There is no newsletter and no marketing list of any kind on this site.
Who else sees it
Nobody is sold or given your details. We do not share enquiries with dealers, sellers, finance houses, insurers, workshops or anyone who might want to approach you, and we accept no referral payment for doing so.
The practical exceptions are the obvious ones: the service provider who hosts the site and handles the form delivery necessarily processes the message in transit, and a lawful request from a competent authority would be complied with. Where you ask us to attend a bank or a licensing office with you, we discuss only what that step requires.
How long anything is kept
Form enquiries and the notes taken from a phone call are deleted within twelve months of the last contact about them. Where you have paid us for work, the inspection report and its photographs are kept for the same period unless you ask us to keep them longer so that you can refer back to them.
Deletion means deletion of the record we hold, including the photographs. Ask us at any point to remove something earlier and we will do it and confirm that it is done.
Your rights under the Act
You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong, ask for it to be deleted, withdraw the consent you gave on the form, and object to our holding it at all. None of this costs anything and none of it requires a reason.
If you are not satisfied with how we have dealt with such a request, you may take the matter to the national Information Regulator, which handles complaints about personal information. We would rather you spoke to us first, and we will say so, but the right is yours either way.
Security, and an honest limit
Access to enquiries is limited to the two people who run the site, on their own devices, which are password protected. The site is served over an encrypted connection and the form is not stored in any public place.
We will not pretend that any website is beyond reach. What we can promise is that we hold as little as possible, hold it for as short a time as possible, and never pass it on, which is the only protection that genuinely works.
Children and this site
This site is written for adult drivers and buyers. We do not knowingly collect details from anybody under eighteen, and an enquiry that appears to come from a child is deleted rather than answered.
Where a younger family member is helping an older relative with an enquiry, the details we hold should be the adult buyer's, and we will ask for that when it is unclear.
